Wispy bones of winter

by Michael   Dec 6, 2017

Ashes of summer
fall and settle upon a
bed of frosty-dew.

Amber-gold and
chocolate crispy curls
glisten in winters icy weave

Mighty wooded skeletons
span across our motherland;
their boughs expose
wispy bones, that stretch out
waiting patiently for seasons return.

Embroidered upon an
old shoddy, patchwork fence,
intricate matrixes suspend with detail;
delicately glazed with miniature
iced chandeliers, that
twinkle in the rays of the sun.

Ivy creeps into the picture
mellowing a barren season
with a leafy splendour,
and evergreens grace their
presence with vibrant shades.

some,
hold little shiny clusters
of red and orange gems.

as I sit admiring the chilly
beauty of winter, a robin
comes to breast-feed a
warming glow into my heart.

My thoughts are turned
to-
the pitter-patter-
of tiny baby buds
that will blossom
once again upon
those wispy bones,
and put colour back
into our cheeks.
