DIY Bapitsm

by Alice   Dec 10, 2017

With the hard bristle brush
I take to my flesh
like a soiled sheet.
Water-
the shower is a cloudburst
and it should brim my putrid lungs.

PURGE- PURGE
SCOUR- SCOUR
HARDER- HARDER
NOW!

I am baptising myself.
My sins must be atoned
with a finger of soap
and a ragged flannel.
The heat of the water
is a whipping:
I force the dial to the left-
so I may boil like some brainless lobster.
Not only oil seeps my pores
but I pray my faults to drip as well.
I can feel them swell
lodge out my breath
and hang me.
Bent bare in the cubicle
I am in a heated purgatory
so shame, shame, shame on me
for being whoever that may be.

Ouch! That's not a good feeling or a good place to be but your expression of the shame is brilliant! :-) x

A very intense write Alice. You have always an interesting way of describing the world. This was no exception.

Your writes are so unique and so freshly expressed that is so hard for me to express my feeling except through some corny, mediocre words. So I apologize for that:
    Very nice Alice.
