Anaesthetic

by Kitty Cat Lady   Dec 19, 2017

When the pain becomes too much to bear
Break away to a distant place
Let your mind fragment and free itself
Of the torture it endures

Where did it take you?
Who are you now?
In that happy place
Free from chains that bind

Did you numb or excite?
Did it take you to the bottom of a bottle
Maybe an empty ice cream tub
Or a fully plunged syringe

Did you lose yourself in those pills
A long mellow smoke
Perhaps the thrill of a bet
Or the wanton release of the body

Did you find solace there?
A moment in life to pause
Or has it gone far beyond the escape
And now become a vice.

A thought provoking and interesting piece. It's surprising how pain is handled differently by people. I think coping mechanisms are fine unless you have an addictive nature because the mechanism if it becomes an addiction can be more destructive in the long term. Best wishes Milly x
