Seeing you lying there,
With your favorite pink dress,
Smiling your usual smile.
With your nails painted red and silver (How festive!),
Wearing your favorite lipstick.
It almost made it appear that
All you were doing was just
Waiting for your Prince Charming
To come and kiss away
The spell that had you asleep.
I, like everyone else in the chapel,
Wished that that was true.
But alas,
Today is the day
That we put you to rest.
I clutched on to your photo
As if I was hugging on a teddy bear,
As my hands grew light
Since all of my blood was
Going to my face,
Attempting to choke back tears.
But at least
You are no longer
In any more pain
From the disease that was
Eating you from the inside.
You did live a wonderful life,
And met so many loving people
Along the way.
I did see that you had a poem
Written out in your memorial pamphlet,
That said "Miss me, but please don't forget me"
I promise you that I will do just that.
I love you, Tía Liva,
And i hope you rest in peace.
