STAND EASY

by CJ Maleney   Jan 13, 2018

So you took your countries shilling,
You stood and declared your oath.
Like so many men before you,
Knowing you may pay a cost.

You accepted that role without hesitation,
And you found out what is war.
The things that man can do to each other,
In the service of our lords !

But you did it mate!
And we all know that it wasn't pleasing,
So now we send you to god my friend
And at last you can stand easy.

stand easy dude, stand easy

Feel the need to add this.

We lost a mate just prior to Christmas and he's finally repatriated.

His send of is this Thursday. He, I, and many current and ex and serving, squaddie mates have not seen each other for years. Yet we will be converging from all over the county to say our farewell.

    That's something many won't understand.

A thought provoking piece. All through history the leaders have thrown away the lives of thousands of service men who have been deemed disposable. Yet these brave men died for their country and have no choice what battles they fight. Who knows what drives a man to fight for his country. I'd like to think it was for honour and to defend those who are weaker and for his people's right to freedom

The first thing that drives a man is pride in his country and then comes the feeling of needing to protect those and what you love.

I don't think any man or woman thinks "I wanna go to war"! If you have that thought process then you should not be allowed near any kind of weapon. Unfortunately some slip through the net.

I've been out for a long time now but I still remember why I joined and I did think I would be in the army forever. Things change.

Thing to remember thoughts this, we train for was in the hope it will never happen.

I absolutely hate the fact that there's still a need for military anywhere in the world. Yes, it's voluntary but people are basically losing their lives because world leaders are unable to communicate effectively. Wars are fought because leaders can't agree on something (simplified I know, but break it down and they are the facts). It simply doesn't make any sense. At all.
Huge respect to all service men and women that protect their countries and their allies, I just wish they weren't needed.
Really sad but thought provoking Craig :-) x

      Thank you.

In what we now call our "modern age" it's not that leaders don't communicate because I think they do so rather well. Us little folk will often despair at the bargains they reach, (and some elections lol), however for the most part the world chugs along ok.

It's the nut jobs and extremists that create the need for military. How much is born of envy, how much of greed? If these people in power could simply grasp, that if they actually stopped shooting innocent people, and tried to work things out the world would welcome them and this would be despite their past deeds.

Jesus our nations history is drenched in blood. It took centuries but we got there!

As long as there is a man or woman out there with the "I want" instead of the "we need" attitude. Then war is unavoidable.

      Sad but true I'm afraid.

Wow this is blunt and so very true. I am pretty sure there is more that will agree. All the best
