The Pampered Poets of the 21st Century.

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 20, 2018

Don't call my work flawless.
Don't say how moved you are.
You better tell me straight up
how offended you are,
how vulgar I am.

You think I care?

Because the greatest irony
in this literary world,
is you acting pompous,
expecting to be coddled
because of your royal name.
I'm sick to death of people's pity,
of cliched comments
to somehow appease and
put my mind at ease.

Since when did poetry become
complacent? We were born to revolt,
not sink in mud and curse the world
for its cruelty.

I know when I don't like what I read
and I know no one deserves false praise.

Tell me that's not how ladies act,
tell me I'll disappoint my mama.
Strike me for being so rude in
your presence.

I thought this was a public space,
didn't realize this was your territory
but while I'm at it, let me burn
that gaudy throne and weave crowns
out of that bruised ego.

Spit on my poetry. Bury it alive.
I live for that.... I thrive on that.

Once again I apologize for intruding into you poem MA...

Ben..for some reason you no longer have a reply button next to your comment but...this is my reply...

I'm not questioning the validity of your comment just that you seem to change hats on occasion when it suits.

As for being a popular poet...I'm not sure about that but what I would say is that more members know your name on here.

I have a reply button this time - not before for some reason. Message me if you want to talk, Hellon; I don't want to continue this on this feed. All I would say is that I am being so blunt because MA literally 'asked for it'. Poetry is subjective - I say again - but to me, this is not poetry. The fact that it's subjevtive doesn't mean you can't have an opinion about what makes a poem. I don't know that it is definitely NOT a poem, but I don't feel - in my opinion - that it qualifies. That is all.

I think this could be classified as free verse, or even spoken word, which are both technically poetry. If not, it still utilised a ton of poetic devices for it to be called poetry. The imagery. Emotion. The distinct voice... I very much enjoyed reading this!

Absolutely, Hellon, poetry is subjective and in my opinion, this is not poetry. As she clearly states on the boards, we can all have our opinions - why is mine less valid simply because it's on a popular members poem and not a slight on the boards?

If Mark did not nominate this, I would have. I freaking love this Maryanne.

Okay, so be it. This isn't poetry. It is chopped up prose.

    All the best.

Isn't poetry subjective? Didn't you, yourself, say that Ben on more than on occasion? Now you seem to be contradicting your previous statement. It would appear that the meaning of subjective changes depending on whether you deem something to be a personal slight to you.

Sorry for nudging into your poem MA...couldn't help it though :)
