Against the Chords

The cello moans,
the piano drums,
like the rain of sorrow
upon the earth,
but I remain complete
against the chords
as I feel her flesh
bulwark to mine
in the dark.

The brevity of this is stunning and I'm happy you posted an older piece. There's a fire in this, a sense of finding a new harmony against loud chaos. This poem feels so intimate and I love the possible meanings one can gain from this. It's like this quiet, personal moment where that barrier is broken and you can reach something other than falling apart, lost in the chords.

Also, forgot to mention that I had to look up "bulwark". I don't think I've ever seen that word in literature or heard it before. So that kind of intrigued me.

Thank you deeply for your words. Regarding 'bulwark', I couldn't completely find one word that connoted at once the support I wanted to evince, as well as be specifically evocative of a fortress or castle.
