The angels cried

by Brenda   Apr 16, 2018

They found him,
hanging,
rope tightly around
the sturdiest branch,
tighter yet around his neck...
-
They cried,
his loss was theirs too.
Unable to stop
his hurtle into space,
unable to un-hear
the crack of bones
as the rope went taunt...
-
People do bad things...
To each other,
to themselves.
It causes us to wonder,
to shake our heads
in disbelief.
It causes tears to flow
down our cheeks-
Just like the angels
unable to stop
the destruction, the damage
to ourselves, to another...
-
Please think!
Before you speak,
before you act.
These things can't be returned-
like a stone thrown,
it is hitting its intended target.
It is destroying a life,
a family,
an entire country...
-
The angels cried-
this boy died-
another life lost-
but at what cost?

Brenda I've read this over and over again and couldn't find words the first few times why? I'm not entirely sure but as I said in my previous comment it pulled at my heart strings and made me feel somewhat goosebumpy with the vivid imagery.
The title in itself is a vivid image of angels crying, my initial thought was why are they crying, what has caused angels to cry so openly? I'm positive we will find out reading on (I know, I know I cheated with reading numerous times)
    1) oh my gosh this image again is vivid. I pray (and I'm not much of a praying lady) for people who find people hanging as it's my worst nightmare but it shows that these people have suffered with depression so long that it feels as though they have nothing left, they feel alone and like no one cares when infact people probably do care. The rope be tight around the branches and tighter still around his neck is an incredible image which will stick in my mind forever.
    2) Another stanza full of vivid image and one which doesn't bare thinking about.. It reminds me of a quote I read recently which toes a little like this “every 40 seconds someone dies of suicide, every 41 seconds someone is left to make sense of it” I guess what I'm trying to say is it's much more ‘common’ than one would like to think unfortunately. I feel their loss and hear the cracking of his bones here. The word ‘taunt’ is used superbly here.
    3) unfortunately, yes, people do bad things to one another and we ourselves are our worst judge and when words actions are bad we can feel nothing but ‘alone’ it makes us wonder, it makes us disbelieve but also we think “thank the Lord it isn't me” and I know I'm not the only one who would think that either but we're powerless apart from spreading the word about depression and suicide what else can we do? Answers on a postcard please.
    4) no words here none at all!! Just truth truth truth if only more people released what wombs and destruction they are causing.
    5) a hard hitting ending with yet again fantastic, vivid imagery.
    Take care B

Awww Em, thank so much. Your words describing this poem are so dead on. To hit that spot in your life where death is more welcomed than facing another day, it's incredibly sad. I know you have been a victim of bullying yourself and thankfully we are incredibly blessed to have you here with us. So many things people do that can either destroy someone or give them the strength to go on. Hugs my dear-

Brenda, I am so sorry that I missed this.
Your words have vividly described the death of this poor lad. I could feel the roughness of the taught rope as if it were around my own neck.
It really made me think about our actions and their potential impact on others.
    All the best. X

Thank you so much! It really is crazy how so many times we don't think before we speak or act and horrible things get put into action. Hugs to you-

This poem could be about anyone who couldn't bear the upsetting words made by others to provoke him to an extent that he had to sacrifice his own life to cleanse himself from their words or the sins other committed.

This sounds like a poem about bullying but still I am not sure. As you mentioned, "such things are happening around us." From a school boy to a teenager to some big politician, statements are being given and innocent people are paying for it.

To be honest, there is cost of life but only to those who knows how precious it is to earn. The people you mentioned in your poem other than that innocent boy around whom the whole poem revolves, they don't even know how to spell life. How will they know its cost?

If I am not wrong you portrayed the emotions of syrian brothers and sisters too. How mischievously the people on the highest level are playing with their lives. Drone attacks, chemical attacks, blizzard of bullets, and you mentioned angels cried.

Brenda, do you really believe, if there were any angels or God, such things would be happening?
People often say, God is perfect. If God is perfect, why the imperfect things going on his most perfect creation?

And about the angels, I can say that they exist. Angels in the form of beautiful, compassionate people like you, but they are so helpless that they can't do anything. The best they can do is to express all the heinous things going around them which you always do very well.

You did it in the past by dedicating so many poems to Andrea's daughter and making her feel that you were always with her.

For me, if the angels cried, means that it was you or someone as kind, wise and good as you.

    All the best!

As always Naaz, thank you so much for your kind thoughts and comments. It is about bullying, and the current world events that are going on now. I can't answer where God is in all this. I can't understand the world as it is, hard to wrap my head around these days. The only thing I can do is write, in some small way to express myself. Stay strong my friend-hugs-
