Life

by Mark Rawlins   May 2, 2018

It's a bumper box of Belgian chocs.
It's a bowl of wholesome pasta.
It's a rickety ride that rocks and shocks,
so scream if you wanna go faster.

It's the state of being before you're dead.
It's the mire in which you wallow.
It's a sh*t sandwich, and if you've got more bread
the less sh*t you'll have to swallow.

It's a funny old game. A game of fate.
It's a long winding road to drive.
It's a tiresome drudge. It's a trap - Check-mate,
and you're lucky to get out alive.

It's sweet. It's sour. It's hot. It's cold.
It's lies conceal the truth .....
but, 'hope I die before I'm old'
is an anthem for the youth.

It's a pint of bitter. It's a sticky sweet.
It's a gamble - win or lose.
It's a dodgy dance to a dodgy beat ....
but it's still the 'Thing' you choose.

So ... fill it up with laughter
before you kick this bucket,
'cause there is no 'ever after'.....
That's all Folks! That's Life!
F**k it!

this verse does not flow nearly as well as the rest. It seems you've sacrificed the meter for the inclusion of 'and if you've got more bread'. I like the metaphor, for life, but if you could convey it, without sacrificing the meter, it would make an excellent write.

    Enjoyable, nether the less.

Amen Mark! Loved this. This is so true, live, love, soak it all in, it's gone before you know it.

I appreciate the rhyming in this and the way the two sides of life are made clear throughout. Excellent poem.
