Remorse of the Innocent

by Larry Chamberlin   May 15, 2018

I hear you crying because I’m gone
wailing you should have been there
challenged those devilish spawn
saved me from that grisly nightmare

Weep not, child, lead your life in peace
for had you been with me your death
would have brought pain without cease
my soul burdened by your last breath

Bad men prove their guilt in deed
but your tears flow from other’s acts
you could not know, no signs to read
just so sudden were these attacks.

A well written piece. I like the neatness of the verses as I read and barely notice the subtle, alternate rhyme scheme.

I am hearing a father's voice - a voice of measured wisdom and patience in the presence of resentment and anger.

    Enjoyable as always.
