It rests upon you (Decuain)

by Meena Krish   May 15, 2018

In each one of us there is some sadness
which the heart shelters keeping nights awake,
whether to be swallowed by its blackness
or to rise up from the grasp of this snake
rests upon will and strength to drown or break;
Unforgiving times and merciless days
will suggest and find easy ways to take,
don’t let your heart to be caught in this maze
as it leads you to a world of darkness
to live your life in a web of madness!

----------------......-------------

The Decuain (pronounced deck•won), created by
Shelley A. Cephas, is a short poem made up of 10 lines,
which can be written on any subject. There are 10 syllables
per line and the poem is written in iambic pentameter.

There are 3 set choices of
rhyme scheme:

ababbcbcaa, ababbcbcbb, or ababbcbccc

For a longer Decuain poem, add more stanzas for a double,
triple, quatruple, etc. Decuain.

A dark piece, but filled with inspiration. So true, it rests upon us, everything is up to us. Wonderfully penned.

    Best regards,

I like this Meena, its dark and inspiring. The form is not one I had heard of, so I am grateful to you for this.

The sadness that we hold can make the world we live in appear like a labyrinth. When we fall on despairing times, it can be easy to wallow and drown It is at times like this, when that snake should be grabbed and discarded. We all have inner strength and at these times we should listen to its calling and make the right decision - leading you to freedom.

This form is not easy, the IP and the rhyme scheme are restrictive, but you, have created and inspirational write.

    Thank you.
