This is Truth

I don’t want to write a story
That has a happy ending;
I don’t want to give false hope,
That’s not the message I am sending.
I want to show the truth
That people try to hide,
That not everything is perfect
That there is pain deep inside.
Sometimes we delude ourselves
Into thinking that its real;
The things we want to hear
And the things we want to feel.
But nine times out of ten
Its just empty words and lies,
As soon as things get rough
All we get are sad goodbyes.
There are too many things
That make it hard to do;
Things that do not matter
But you say they do to you.
So now I laugh and play along
Pretending I’m alright,
And when you go to sleep
I cry throughout the night.
I try to hold on tightly
To the things I used to know,
But my mind likes to trick me
Saying those things were just for show.
So I’ll say goodbye again tonight
And dream of you instead,
And lock your face in my memory
Deep inside my head,
Because I know that you aren’t dreaming
Like you used to do, of me,
And I know it is not my face
That you’ll wake up first and see.
And while you’re living your own life
And moving forward every day,
I’m stuck inside this heartbreak
Lacking proper words to say.
