The Lawn

In a beach neighborhood
with pink plastic flamingos,
lawn jockeys, palm trees and
bougainvilleas on manicured lawns.

She sits staring out the window
while brushing her long brown hair.

The chihuahua yaps to be picked up,
Kathy gives in and puts the feisty
pup on her lap.
