Into Hell

by Alice   May 26, 2018

The mighty sun has seen
and beamed beneath my blunders.
And in its eye the gods decry
shadows to bow me under.
Down into the breathless night
in a crescent cavern I press tight
from the howls of the gytrash
famished for fools, with jaws that gnash
and jutter in the musty air
hoping that children have no fear.
And so in my mother-cave I weep,
for I am forlorn, orphaned by sleep
to balm my ears from thunder,
of the beast that cries my sunder.

I read this when you posted it and meant to come back and comment, but my daughter was born premature at 4 pounds... so I had a lot going on.

That being said... this is amazing. It is dark, and beautiful, excellently rhymed, and has hauntingly vivid imagery. I hope you don't mind, but it inspired me to write a response piece. I hope you get a chance to read it.
