Middle Ground

Do you recognize yourself
What you have become
Such ugliness suddenly evident
I can feel the terror whispering through your veins
The lies clawing, fighting their way out
I know you shroud yourself in darkness
Preferring, choosing to remain blind
Though there is much to fear in those quiet depths
Your monsters
Threatening to force you out of the shadows
And your screams echo, thick in my ears
You cringe from the light
Crawling and begging
To remain hidden for eternity
Frightened you will be exposed
The truth laid out very much like seated flesh
I can taste your paralyzed mind
Struggling and suffocating
Pleading to be released
Burning in the brightness
But the deed is done
I see you for who you are
Smell the guilt in your blood
The black cannot shield you
And the white denies your cries for cleansing
These demons demand you pay for your crimes
I can touch the sorrow dripping from your green eyes
But you are beyond saving
Chained to the bleak path you have chosen
Damaged and beaten
I must turn from you
Leaving you to die there
In the hands of your fears
