My Reflection

by Kyleene Mitchell   Jun 1, 2018

Loneliness is the gaping darkness in your chest
It’s the moment your mind begs them to see you
Loneliness is the consuming hunger burning inside for a connection
It’s the decay in your heart from absolute neglect
Loneliness is the aching need to simply be touched, to be felt
It’s the longing to catch them looking at you with something more than empty eyes
Loneliness is the tear drops soaking your pillow like a secret in the night
It’s when your ears strain to hear even a whisper of affection
Loneliness is the lightning of your soul smoldering out
It’s the throbbing in your body from unmet needs
Loneliness is a dangerous, ruthless killer
It makes you question your worth and your sanity
Loneliness bleeds into every desperate waking second
It causes heart wrenching, fist clenching grief
Loneliness is a familiar fog
It’s what stares back from your haunted eyes in the mirror
