Just a purrfect day – (feline sonnet)

Inside I have an urgent need to hug. . .
She knows this time I shouldn’t need to ask.
I recall a time upon the fire rug;
I moved straight in to carry out the task:
Kneeling down, my hands went in to cuddle -
Alarmed she spat, her claws, a frenzied wheel.
I pursued, not wanted to be fuddled;
We both howled out, our pain most very real.
This year, I armed myself with fishy charms.
This year would not become another mess.
A treat received, she leapt into my arms.
Embraced, we knew, our love, had beat this test.
On June the fourth, it’s hug a cat this day -
It’s very hard, that’s all I’ve got to say.
