Sanctuary

by Megan Chapman   Jun 16, 2018

Trying to make sense of the hurt
and stinging sadness,
I’m enmeshed in a maelstrom of emotions.
Put my attention somewhere else or I’ll be lost.
Find the eye of the storm

Gathering in my tired and tattered thoughts and feelings
Settling and soothing them
Cleansing them of their darkness and fear,
I sanctify them.
Placing them as perfumed candles to light my temple and smooth my crumpled peace
My sanctuary
Is ever created anew
Always here and always now.
