Breathe

by Love   Jun 16, 2018

It's the simplest activities in life,
That are somehow becoming much more complicated.

For example:
The straightforward act of breathing.

Being able to watch the capacity of everyone around me,
Be nurtured with such an ease of vitality.
To have a chest flowing so naturally of nourishment,
Without a single care or thought in the world.

The motions of,
-Up and down-
-In and out-
-Inhale and exhale-

While here I am,
Barely struggling to get by...
Being clouded by a heavy chest,
Which is only just trying to survive.
To gather enough suffocating oxygen,
So I can make it through another moment of time.

Because,
That's how I live this life now...
Moment by little moment.
And yet,
It's funny how nobody around me can see,
That I'm drowning in all of this pain.

And the worst of it all;
Is not being able to breathe alongside with them.
To instead die this slow and painful death,
That robs me each and every day.

You see Dear Reader,
This is what this mental illness does.
It can strip the vitality right out of you.
The oppression of it can be so literal that,
It can actually take your breath away.

So much pain and emotions in this powerful write! You explained it as if you were a Teacher or a Professor trying to get across her points to her students. Well written!

You have expressed the struggle so well Love, in several ways - in the words you have used and the order in which you place them so carefully, in construction of the sentences in the stanzas and also in how you have arranged the verses visually.
You have evoked the experience of having so much pain and struggle unrecognised because of keeping it so well disguised very effectively I think.
Keep writing and looking for the light and you will find your way through.
    One who knows,
    Megan
