Broken Vases

by Mortal Utopia   Jul 6, 2018

You know, you really do give me strength
in your fractured fragility -
so close to tears and so close to courage.

How lucky am I to have you beside me
as the rain wept by and through us
like souls - perhaps to unbreak us.

How lucky am I not to be alone
when the wind enclosed us,
hushed and shy - perhaps to embrace us.

Here we are:
two broken, thrown away vases
lying on the ground

holding, carefully, yesterday's raindrops.

This Got me at 'fractured fragility' There is strong emotion in this piece that lights up the screen. Great depth of character and storytelling in this piece. No filler words, the poem is stripped bare down to its essentials. Good job (7 points)

    Judging Comment:

The imagery of two broken vases lying there yet still intact with
feelings for each other and it will remain as such even after. This can also
be related to two people who deeply care for each other and are there for
each other through it all. Perhaps my interpretation may be wrong but that
is the picture I get in this...nicely penned.
