in god you blindly trust.

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 8, 2018

Today, I woke up to a post preaching
about how people like me shouldn't be
questioning the "Creator",
that if we normalize this,
we're somehow promoting pedophilia.

And my heart caved in as my arms
shook with how easily you swallowed misinformation,
twisting a community that is usually harmless
into an idea that "love is love"
means we would ever accept anything
underage.

When did women kissing women
become the modern day forbidden fruit?
When did the bible become our assessment
on if a person should be treated equally or not?

But then again, am I really surprised
when you wield discrimination as a
means of praying for the wicked.
You still call our identity
a "lifestyle", saying there's a
difference between love and acceptance
and you only wish to imitate holiness.

However, if you loved us with a godly love,
you would accept without trying to change us
like we're a faulty light bulb or a broken battery.

It shouldn't be that hard to respect pronouns,
to treat our existence with dignity
instead of steeping us in politics and
drinking deep not for the taste
but analysis.

We don't exist as your commentary,
and I won't be on the sidelines correcting
you, anymore.

I was equally tied with 3 poems for my 4 point pick. Mr Darcy's 'curious incident' and 'Bodies' by Rosy cheeks and Irony. I plumped for this because it is not just a brave write, but a relevant write. I often question the relevance of religion. Usually shot down by those standing on soapboxes. It is a difficult subject to tackle and you will upset somebody. But I think POP raises some great points and doesn't hold back. Good job (4 points)

    Judging comment:

A well written piece that should make one think. The very beginning got me thinking on how misplaced certain people can become; they know exactly how to link something very different to something exceptionally different in the wrong way, and to top it off get entire societies running behind their flawed ideology. And you rightfully end it, because sometimes, no matter how hard you try, certain people always find ways to support their own philosophies and there is no convincing them. I really liked this piece on how much more can be dwelled into with certain simple words you have framed (but still I wonder, can certain ideologies change even with simple words?)

I guess that's what bugs me about organized religion, it judges you if you don't follow their thought process. Who is anyone to say you aren't acceptable because of your choices? You are born as who you are and should be celebrated as being just that, not judged and cast aside. Hugs for being you!

Honestly I had to read it over and over and I hope that I have not misunderstood. I am a believer and I am trying to do right by God but who are we the human race to determines what is right. God loves all of his children but he does not like ugly. And when I say that I am not talking about two women or two men that's on them but messing with young children or crime rates going up children bullying each other and the list goes on. Humans have a choice between good and bad and some I believe were truly born evil. I could go on but I leave as that. Thank you for sharing. All the very best
