Life and Death

by WanderingShade   Aug 5, 2018

There were once two lovers,
One that vowed to protect all life,
Doing her best to cause no harm,
While the other vowed to protect life,
Even if he had to kill to save.

The day they met they fell instantly,
Their love so bright the gods themselves took notice,
Jealous that something so pure had come from two souls so different,
The gods forced a test on them.

One day the man heard in his head,
A voice that said one must die,
In a fortnight or both shall perish,
That night as she slept soundly,
He crept from their bed.

He found himself in hell,
Face to face with the jealous gods,
And told them that he gave his life for her,
So don't take her before her time.

The gods promised that for his life,
That he gave willingly,
They would let no harm come to her,
Until the fates decided it was her time.

With the deal made,
He walked into hell,
But the gods were cruel,
Still jealous of their love.

That morning she woke,
Her love nowhere to be found,
When she heard a voice,
The man you seek has been taken,
If you want him back,
Your life must be forsaken.

She walked to the peak,
And called on the gods,
Her voice ringing with despair and anger,
As they answered her call.

She swore her life forfeit,
And the Fates cut her thread,
Her soul brought to hell,
As her lover's face contorted in agony.

He watched on as she gave her life,
As he was pulled from hell,
His rage began to spread,
As the betrayal set in.

His rage burned a path,
From hell to the peak,
No words were spoke,
As the gods lay at his feet.

The man that choose his death,
To save her life,
Now became death,
For the gods unright.

As his rage burned the world,
Her soul did search,
For the man that held her heart,
When she found instead the gods.

Troubled she asked,
How it was they were there,
When she found out of the betrayal,
Her heart broke in two.

The man she loved broken,
With nothing she could do,
Until the gods mentioned,
She could bring life anew.

Her soul followed him,
The trail of blood and fury,
As behind him life grew,
On this path eternally...
