Haunting Meadow

by Maple Tree   Aug 6, 2018

My mind swirls backwards
to a place where knees hugged my chin,
dandelions encircled denim jeans
while ladybugs told me stories of life.

Pockets filled with thistle
as blue skies swirled above,
crickets sang melodies
and life remained simple.

I have enough nature within my soul
to withstand these wicked storms,
but these city streets are filled with anger
and violence has never met peace beside a pond.

Sorrow echos dying souls between each brick layed
as pathways become buried with innocent blood
of fallen angels and hungry eyes;
it's hard for me to find peace -

when I'm busy dodging bullets.

Sadder still how many do find peace dodging bullets...
Nice free verse, Andrea. I especially liked the resolve in your line: "I have enough nature within my soul to withstand these wicked storms", and your first two stanzas are particular heart warming to me...
    Thanks for sharing.

Times have changed so much and it is so scary to watch. My heart goes out to young children what future do they have. The world itself has not changed it is the people that make it evil. No regard for nothing and nobody. Thank you for sharing and all the very best

I totally feel you in this poem Andrea. I grew up in a rural area, now live in an urban area, there's no peace there. You cant even see the stars properly. Well done with this-
