When Love Escapes

by Walter   Aug 15, 2018

You've been abused and pushed to the ground
And the love you once felt is no longer around
The man that you're with drinks till he falls
Now you're a prisoner behind these four walls

Turn a blind eye to bruising on your skin
But you can't ignore the pain felt within
You'll cry all day when he leaves you alone
Become someone else when his face is shown

The intimacy once felt has now become rape
You're scared to the bone and there's no escape
Your tears can't be held as you silently cry
But you'll remain captive until the day that you die

    Judging comment:

Toxic relationships! It is very harsh to be in love with a person who is wrong and there's nothing worse than being stuck in it and not being able to leave. Along with exploring a severe issue, Walter has also chosen an apt title - when love escapes - what's left is severely toxic.

    Excellent poem
I might suggest changing “becomes” to “become” to go with “has”

Thanks Larry for pointing that out. I originally didn't have "has" in the first version & forgot to pick up on the change you mentioned. Cheers!
