Just being with you

by Michael   Sep 7, 2018

we sat at the back of beyond-
where we listened to the moon
whispering with the night
and the wind sat still beside us

we ate chocolate;
snapping little pieces of dreams
and placed them upon each others lips
I held you in my breath for as long as I could
then released you, with a kiss

the palms of the river cupped its hands;
and carried us upon the cusp of a journey

-with our wounds drifting apart

we stopped. For a short while,
I rested my head;
gazing up, and saw a reflection of you in the sky

a constellation of stars, draped across your shoulders
as Venus rolled across your eyes
with your head sat beneath a crown made of clouds.

my twilight queen.

Your smile stretched as far as I could see
and drifted with me, further;
with our love drawing closer and closer.

violins played; echoing from a pendent
you wore around your neck
with the air humming in silence
around us.

gradually we were ambushed by nature
the sun pulled down, the back-drop of night;
dawn exploded with a chorus
and the grass flooded with green
doused in frosty lace;

shimmering,

such a beautiful element of surprise.

..and our hearts fell asleep
upon our sleeves
