Despair

by Milly Hayward   Sep 24, 2018

Have I not breathed the very air
that shouted once of freedom shared
and cast down an auspicious prayer
that we would always be prepared

For life and love has cracked the stone
and in the coming of the dawn
I see in you hope tossed and thrown
cast down on squalid blood stained lawn

No longer does the cloud take form
for darkness now sucks out the air
my sorrow drowns within the storm
and heart is filled with dark despair

The sun is lost as I am too
no wind can cast away this deed
this life cannot be washed anew
or death stop this eternal bleed

Something always bleed from the heart of a poet. Like sadness bleeds from mine and darkness from yours. This bleeding is necessary to let go of what's bothering our soul. Milly, excellent write once again. Everything's perfect.

Wow, I'm very impressed with your meter. I'm usually not one to be wowed by it, as I seem to connect more with free verse. But your words, your rhymes.. it stuck with me. I felt like I was reading a poem straight out of a book, very impressive. A high quality, dark poem. Beautifully penned.
