For the sake of a loved one

by Dagmar Wilson   Sep 28, 2018

I've been lying to myself
for the sake of my child,
my stomach is screaming.
Walking on pins and needles is not my style.

For the sake of my child
my tongue remains on pause,
this twist is making me sick.

Sworn to secrecy, if broken
may cost me the relationship with my daughter.

For the sake of my child
you begin to carry a load
not mine, not hers
it's her dad's and his problems at home.

To be placed in a position of such trust and to share a secret can be both privilege and curse. Expecially when the secret you share is with a child.

It places a person in a very difficult situation where they may feel the need to do or say something to help resolve the situation, but how do you do so without breaking trust.

This poem by Dagmar Wilson is a very well written piece that captures the turmoil of such a predicament incredibly well.
