Seasoning

by Maple Tree   Oct 23, 2018

White fabric outline's the true silhouette
of me
for salted tears shall shape the warrior in me

peppery nightmares encase these elder bones
as if to say "I have survived"
and yet I still feel pain

my life has never been bland
you always need
a bit of salt and pepper.

This is so true. We all have our own special seasonings in our life. Salt, pepper are always a must, we all have our good days and bad and our seasoning showcases that. Beautiful write, as always.

This is a well written poem. The metaphors you have used do well to encapsulate the emotions you feel right now. When I hear the word salt I personally envision an emotion of anger and possibly sadness, which you have had a lot of in your life (as most people have). But I really enjoy the spin you put on it because you filled it with hope. You have cried your tears of negativity, now you want to use those tears to be your guide and strength, you want to put your negative feelings to good use, so to speak.

The word peppery is well used in the context you use here. More negative emotions ( irritable) or in the case you used wise, you have had to wade through these negative emotions to make you the person you are now. You have survived much of the pain, yet some of it still lingers.

I agree with your last statement you do need a lot of salt and pepper (different emotions) to help you grow in life, and I truly think there has to be a balance, it cannot be all sunshine, but it cannot all be rain either. A balance leads to shaping you to live a good life.
