A Man And His Hounds (Dawgs)

by CJ Maleney   Oct 23, 2018

No fur in which to bury my ugly face,
Brother lost to me though of a different race.
In sleep forever, now you are and though I see your grave.
I know you are not in it but in a better place.

Perhaps again we shall run side by side,
When from this skin this soul doth slide.
To reunite by river or in the woods
No need for words, the bond truly understood.

Another now does claim your place!
And he comes to me and seeks embrace.
So much like you and I swear it's true,
He's already eating my f×€@ing shoes!

If you could laugh I imagine you would,
Because the little sod is far from good.
If you can see him from where you are?
You will know he barfed up in the car.

Pooch is being a moody, mardy cow.
When he wants to play, my god she growles.
Yet you were exactly the same with her.
It's memories of teeth and fur.

Puppy dog has now found his forever home.
And just like with you, those woods we'll roam.
know you can never be bested or ever outdone.
For every man and boy holds that special one.

Craig, when falling off a horse, it is usually best to get back on. It seems you've managed to put a plaster over your wounds, by finding another dog. Although not exactly the same, this dog will fill some of the void that you have. In time your grief will ebb away, but the memories of your beloved dog will always remain.
    Peace.

Dude I'm chasing the little twat all over. He's a bugger.

But he loves cuddles and a sofa snooze with dad

I love the bit of lighthearted mention of your new puppy and how he's causing you trouble and keeping you busy, how it would make him laugh. And that amazing promise you will run together in the woods someday. Brothers forever indeed. A very touching piece and sometimes all we can do is keep writing about those who have been on a journey with us and kept us company on this adventure of life!
