Coffee In Heaven:

by Scott Cole   Oct 24, 2018

I hope all the Angels drink coffee
And they pull for the Atlanta Braves,
For my Nanny really loved them both
And she took it with her to her grave.

So I wonder if they're allowed coffee
High up there in The Promise Land,
With lots of sugar and some cream
If so then that would just be grand.

Yes I pray the Angels watch baseball
Just to occupy some of their days,
Like me and my grandmother did
Long before her illness took her away.

Then I would know that she's happy
Because it always brought us a smile,
Sipping our coffee during the ballgame
Like that stuff was going out of style.

So I hope they serve coffee in Heaven
For if I know my poor granny at all,
She is up there drinking her coffee
Watching Dale Murphy crush the ball.

These memories will always remain
They're the purest ones that I know,
And even after twenty-two passing years
It's just something I can't outgrow.

These events still outrank them all
For they're the sweetest that I know,,
And still my heart's driving force
Because they're impossible to let go.

So as long as they're giving her coffee
And the Atlanta Braves are on the tv,
Then I'll know that she's in good hands
And she's right where she needs to be.

Wow. I know nothing about the Atlanta Braves or football but I was blown away by this piece. I can just imagine your Grandmother up with the angels drinking coffee. A lovely rhymed piece that made me smile and made me want to cry too. I think your Grandmother would be very touched by this poem. An excellent piece Scott one of your best. Milly x
