6 feet of this green earth

by Darren   Oct 25, 2018

Your love for her began with a neighbourly glance
surely black magic at play
my world exists purely because you grew up together
only a door apart.

Your lives drifted through those nonsensical teenage dreams
yet like bees cannot escape honey
a force greater than us all
melded your destiny's.

In another universe
on another calendar
your paths didn't cross
an interaction that doesn't live.

Yet Granddad, you lived and died for her
now together again in the same earth
that rolled the dice
and brought you, to her.

That first 'tick' on a magical clock
the first eye contact, the proposal
moved by another's hand
that same fate that spawned us all.

As I sit and ponder you both, I marvel
you were born and lived Six feet apart
on a world of 58 million square miles
and now you share for eternity
6 feet of gods green earth.

I really enjoyed this piece as well, my first thought was this was a unique poem because I thought it was a first person perspective about you and your wife. But I really liked how you kind of took us on a journey through your granddad's eyes.

This poem to me speaks volumes about how love works in mysterious ways. A first glance and I get the feeling it was love at first sight here. It kind of is magical and swoony how a chance like this happens. As I said a first glance, leads to having courage to talk to that person, then it just goes from there. My favorite part of this is

Without them you literally wouldn't exist, so I love how you mention that. Almost like a thank you. And you can tell you were close to them, and they were close to each other even at the end. And I can tell that because you said that they are now together in eternity, and love like that seems to very rare these days. Beautiful write.

A beautiful piece that captures the miracle of love. When you find true love you have found and chosen that person out of all the millions of people in the world and they chose you. I can definitely relate to this. The love of my life and I both lived in the same area and went to the same college. Milly x
