A LONESOME DOVE COMES HOME

A LONESOME DOVE COMES HOME

I remember that cold dark night, when my mate and I had a fight, he loved the cold weather, so I took flight. Soaring above the dark grey waves for days, the Sun like a burning ball did slowly rise, blinding my sleepy eyes.

The sudden laughter of the Gulls startled me, one asked; hey girl, what are you doing so far out here? This added to my fear, my wings felt very weak, I asked; is there any land near? And old Gull said; turn to the right, you will see land in sight.

As I alighted upon a palm fawn, I fell asleep after a large yawn. At dawn, I was jolted awake by the squawk of a big macaw, my jaw did drop. Welcome to Hawaii, come, have something to eat, there are many fruits that are so sweet, this was the perfect place to stop.

Wow, I thought, what a lovely place to stay, the natives are so friendly, and their females in grass skirts, do a wonderful sway.

Large tears fell from my eyes, I so missed my special guy, a frigate bird came to inquire why I did cry. I told her about my lover so far across the sea, and my desire to have him here with me. She smiled and said; I will bring your lonely guy to his new home, upon my back he will cling, back to you we will quickly wing.

Days past by, my eyes searched the sky’s, then she appeared at early dawn, on her back, my lover she had born.
Our cooing could be heard by the birds, a nice native couple took us to their home, together at last, never again to roam.

Thanks Milly, the moment I go outside in the morning, the gray morning Dove fly towards me, almost at my feet, looking for their early treat!
