Dear Captain Planet

Dear Captain Planet,

I was stung by a bee when I was young
But it did not get the best of me
Enraged, I swung and squashed the bug
I claimed his life, I'm so sorry

I read that the animals are dying
That we’ve done it all ourselves
The baby birds and bears are crying
They're desperate for your urgent help

We destroyed their homes to build our own
Considered them, we had not
And now in their place we put our roads,
Our crops, livestock, our parking lots

I really want to stop the harm
We’re not giving, we only take
We’re stuck in a dream, despite our alarm
Please wake us, please gives us a shake

I called a rep to speak with him
About our pollution policies
He raised his voice and declared, “It’s a sin!
To Hell with every one of these!

“In 100 years they’ll fix it all,
The trees will be fine, my buddy.
There's no rush to act, no need for this call,
Unless you’re speaking of money”

You see, Mr. Planet, he doesn’t care.
But we do, that’s why we need you
Your super-breath can clean our air
Is that something that you can do?

Here, now I ask is it too late
to turn around to go back?
Are you adept to reverse our fate
Before our blue planet turns black?

Captain Planet, will you be our hero?
Please come and help us now
Take pollution down to zero
These chemicals are thick and foul

Of the ocean, we've destroyed every fish,
Salmon and crabs, wales and dolphin,
I tossed in a penny, to the gods I wished,
“Captain Planet- please help him win.”

So now I will ask, how is the battle?
Are you well down the road to victory?
We’re up the creek without but one paddle,
O Please, please say you’ve good news for me.

It’s getting hot and it burns, our sun,
It’s not anything like it once was for me,
It’s dangerous now, it’s not one bit of fun-
The molten beach nor the boiling sea

So Captain Planet, if you’re still out there,
And if you can hear all my pleas
Please throw us a bone. Please know that we care
Please save all the birds and the bees!

A plea for which many of us wholeheartedly would join. A nicely rhymed flowing piece that brings to the fore the ever quickening destruction of our world. Milly x

Thank you! I really enjoyed writing this. I imagined it being a little darker but I'm happy with it. For some reason when I copy/pasted from Microsoft Word, all of the stanzas merged together. There's supposed to be a gap between each stanza. I'll fix it.
