good riddance to the man I loved
who left without a care
but now my sadness drowns my being
it hits me,
he was my fresh air.

this ocean I wallow in seems infinite
I would know,
he left me here for hours
but suddenly the darkness creeps on in
and over me it towers.

like a wave it slams down on me
I try to catch my breath
I struggle and tumble against the current
while I fight,
so close to death.

I miss the you that always saved me
when I began coughing up the salt
when my arms gave out
exhausted,
when my mind filled up with doubt.

but now I have no lifeline
the darkness is up to the brim
and sure,
there's plenty of other fish in the sea
if only I knew how to swim.
