Back then

by Michael   Jan 14, 2019

I do recall, when life was sweet
we’d play hop-scotch upon the street,
apple orchards with pear trees too
where cows in fields, would munch and moo.

We’d ride our bikes to places far
and sometimes daytrips in our car
in woods we’d play in fields we’d run
in summer days beneath the sun.

This was the time that schools were out
a rest from names, like “lazy lout”
we lived for all those summer days
away for weeks from teachers craze.

In trees with houses we’d climb and hide
parks with swings and a silver slide,
legs would spring upon the ground
to push a seesaw up and down.

Behind the hills the sun would fall
that was a sign of mothers call
so off we’d fly back to our nest
for feeding up and goodnights rest
