Nowhere to Escape

by ddavidd   Feb 22, 2019

Do you remember us
as moths trapped
inside the lamps of each other,
having no way to escape
from one another's torment and joy
of burning and beguilement,
coming off as trapped being apart
as we were free being together?

The entrapment which was the only freedom
we've ever had,
we've ever explored.
The burn which was the only way
to soothe our aches,
to scratch
our scorching pruritus.

Do you remember
incandescence was the only mode
to mend our souls,
to appease the bruise of our darkness,
to break free,
to fly,
where our soars were to submerge
like two wings plunging into each other's
tumescent chest?
