Other Forms of Madness

by Maple Tree   May 21, 2019

These eyes have witnessed
balmy breezes, whispering
strands of hair; like a may pole
on an anxiety spree.

Nails bitten to the core of pain
upon a night when thunder
exploded in a passionate kiss
while my nerves danced like
gypsies under a full moon.

The core of my depression
lay hidden like a worm in the middle
of an apple, dodging teeth and tongue-
exposing every hidden secret I own.

Exploitation of emotions leads me
to believe that if I dress them up
in metaphoric flavors such a raspberry tears
and bubblegum sorrow, that they would be
easier to handle on a daily basis-

but under
a full moon, the owl awaits me
and nothing can dazzle the sadness
of being alone in the night,
while the cat chases a mouse.
