Flutter

by CJ Maleney   Jun 11, 2019

Do not think of any butterfly!
With amazing rainbow coloured wings.
Think of something sterile,
But there may still be pretty things.

Yet no buzzing of a bumble bee,
Not the whisp of any wasp,
But a quiet social gathering,
Where all have paid a cost.

There is not a little robin here!
Nor a humming bird to see.
The only thing that flutters,
Is contained deep inside of me.

I am not a social butterfly.
I have not colours I wish to show.
I'm in the company of people I dislike?
who's words I do not wish to know.

Yet I sit here with the unfortunate.
The idiots, fools and the insane.
Wondering! what caused me to be here?
And just why the hell I came.

I suppose I had no choice really!
And I guess that I caused it's start
At a resting pace of 135 beats per minute.

My dears

That is how

You flutter

A heart.

Ahh...the absolute truth about life and the choices
made which make us wonder and then we...well we beat ourselves
    up for those choices...

I hope you are okay Craig...take care

Taking our hearts, or for that matter, our health for granted is fool hardy.
Still, we live our lives thinking we are invincible until, in a waiting room we wait and dread and wait and fear death.

This is quite brilliant. Really it is an amazing write. I just wish I had a nomination left for it. I love the way that you have so smoothly integrated nature throughout and I can totally relate. How many times have we all found ourselves surrounded by people who we don't know who are rude and objectionable and wondered why am I still here? Thankfully with the wisdom of age you learn to remove yourself fairly rapidly from such situations :) Millyx
