What am I

by Kris Vigil   Jun 12, 2019

Every time I'm with her,
She says she feels like a princess.

If she is a princess,
And she feels like one when I'm around

Then what does that make me?
Who am I to her

I am not a prince,
I am not hers.

Who else could I be in her court,
What am I

The fool who entertains,
The servant with the wine

She says I'm irreplaceable
She says I'm the Knight of her heart

If this is so,
I'm not worthy of such a title

I'm here because I've no where to go
I'm here, because she lets me

She believes in me,
So I will do as I must

With this smile,
I smile for you

Good bye my love
Hello my friend

This kinda got me in two ways. The first being as both Ben and Mills have pointed out, as an unrequited love and friend.

However it made me more about, what if it were about lovers and one being more committed than the other. One who gives everything and one who always takes.

I guess many have been in such a situation.

I found this to be very thought provoking and an excellent work. Chuffed to see it nominated.

    Regards

I think it happens quite often where one person wants more and never seems to get past the friend stage. But as Ben said loving is sometimes putting our own feelings aside and just being there as a friend at least.

I like to believe that everyone will eventually find their soulmate the one person in the world who loves you just the way that you are and just as much as you love them. Milly x

Kris, this is excellent and perfectly depicts a desperate lover who doesn't know his role and whose romantic intentions are not reciprocated. In the end, if we truly care, then I suppose all we can do is 'lay on the ground in defeat' and be there - even as a friend - anyway. That's what true love is, after all: sacrifice.
    Nominated for the weekly.

All the very best and well done. I really enjoyed this one.

Thank you. I spent the weekend with my best friend. Making her smile, laugh, feel better.

It's only recently, I've noticed I smile less, laugh less and feel worse after I've left.

Kris, I have been there and ultimately, you have to look after yourself as well.
