Take Me In Autumn

by Mark   Jun 13, 2019

I write of grievance to the Reaper's will;
Who'll take me nether, just tho' it will be,
Yet hell is not my quarrel, hell's my bill,
It is the season which that staff reaps me.
O' spare me when the summer sun meets blue
And rays revive with sprightly rippled glare,
Nor when the Winter's cold had light out-blew
For out the snow has meadows icy bare.
Not Spring! Not when the floral blossoms dream
Of rainbow petals lipped of nature's birth,
Then left is Autumn, yes! The ochre gleam,
Let I too fall as leaves wherein I'm worth.

O' grant me soul-consumer; seasons tide!
Let in the fall take mine, where I have died.

Wow, this is really superb. I love the powerful imagery - an emotional piece that is tied up nicely in the last couplet. - straight to my favourites. Milly x

DEAR MEMBERS: I wanted to nominate the poem from my own account but nominated the poem by mistake from the Mod account rather than from this account. Sorry for the inconvenience. I thought I got logged out.

As for Mark. The piece is such a gem. The style, the structure, the word choice, the story behind it and the emotions within it. It all gave me a special feeling. It is a special poem.

Fall is my favorite time of the year. And you have displayed life lessons beautifully and intertwined them with nature's seasons.

I hope others see the beauty of this piece as much as I have.
