Thank you for sharing your feelings about Bassie. He sounds like an incredible companion. Their ability to know us, our emotional states is uncanny. My 'Treacle' will wag a concerned tail with just a small sigh from me. His eyes will tell me "it's ok, dad, I'm here" when I'm angry or worried. If I'm upset, he's there, always there.

I agree, life is achievable with such a companion.

    Take care.

That warms my heart! So much love and it's beautiful when they can, in the smallest ways, give comfort and companionship.

      Take care too!

I’ve never owned a dog, only cats, but I understand that there’s no other companion like one, and Bassie sounds like a wonderful dog. My friend was given a dog as treatment for her bi polar, and it’s a whippet. It’s a pain in the butt, but he saved her. It’s amazing what these animals can do. This is a lovely dedication to a dog, without need for critique or analysis. A poem I imagine many can relate to.

I think we can all love Bassie after reading this. :)

Hey, I love cats too, but my family has always despised them lol. I tried changing their minds and we have this awesome neighborhood cat that visits us... but still, they're partial to dogs.

That is amazing about your friend. Sometimes there are days where I think about what I would be without my dog, especially those times when I push myself FOR him, to go outside and get out of my own head, you know?

      Thank you so much ^_^

MA, you thanked me recently for being open and sharing poetry that is heartfelt and now, here I am, returning that thanks. This is what this place is really about. Trusting, reading and empathising with each others' feelings.
As to the whole dog thing, I have a Leonberger (google) and she eats us out of house and home, but in the short two years we have had her, we have formed an incredible bond and it truly worries me how on earth I will cope without her one day.

All my best to you as ever,

    Ben

Ben, that means so much, thank you, truly!

Oh, I just googled Leonbergers and they look like gentle giants. That's incredible that even in a year or two we can form the neatest bond. It's weird because it feels like I've had Bassie all my life, it's been about five years, but it's like we've known each other longer than that :)

All the best to you, too!

Bassie sounds wonderful <3 ... Dogs really are.... We got our "springador " for my son with tourettes ten years ago. My son is 21 now coming and " Pepsi" has been his BEST companion. They really do know us and are always there to give us a "nudge" or to cuddle up at our lowest tines . They are just darlings our dogs<3

Love your poem. How you bared your soul with us and and told us of your special companion and friend :)

A beautiful write . . so sincere and well written.

    All the best ,
    Olwin.

Animals are awesome( Except humans at times)

This is a great write. My grandma (RIP) used to have a dog and i grew up with Him(RIP). However, after many years we got cats. So I know for sure that dogs, and cats are really good companions. Each one has their own personalities.

    Thanks for sharing

I always say adopting a cat or a dog would make me feel heavy, they need so much care!! And I am afraid I may harm them. I’m also allergic to cats. You changed my mind!!

Reading this oh WOW!! What a story!! You are sooo brave and should be proud of yourself :)

I am very late, but this belonged to the front page. Congrats on your win!!!
