I Write Silly Poems

by Jonathan Jewell   Jun 16, 2019

Should I write a poem,
That uses all my brain?
A poem taking that much thought,
Is not a pleasure,
It's a pain!

So should I write a poem, then,
That's rather erudite?
No. Poems made for showing off,
Are just a load of sh*te.

But surely I should write a poem that
Reflects the education that I've got?
Well, there's little point of doing that,
If it sounds like it's word snot.

The poem that I like to write,
Just pops into my head.
It doesn't matter if it's good or bad;
It matters if it's read.

    Light-hearted and showing your true voice... what is the intention of our poems? Are we writing to impress, to display some sort of unique perspective, or are we writing for us? So we can feel that we've been honest to ourselves.
