The Cold Chimneys of These Masks

by ddavidd   Jun 18, 2019

What an endless night!
What a cruel life
this
has been,
this darkness that we share loneliness
all together,
this congelation
without sharing each other's warmth,
without sensing
one another's fever!

What an ample emptiness!
What a scarce kinship of true minds!
What a dissolution of realness!

_Is there anyone who could ever embrace this soul?
Would any sterling smile
ever ignite
the cold chimneys of these masks?
It is our hearts that separate us,
not the distance. _

What a beautiful flower
stemming
out of the mud of this unsightliness.
What a cockcrow,
burgeoning amaranthine
in my heart!

    What a very sad piece. So much sadness. The title caught my attention. And then the title within the stanza broke my heart;

    Would any sterling smile
    ever ignite
the cold chimneys of these masks?

As for your last stanza, You know what they say? (Long live the rose that grew from concrete. When no one else, even cared.)

This whole poem reminded me of an old-forgotten favourite: Bette Midler - The Rose.
