Aftertaste

by ddavidd   Jun 18, 2019

Darkness never takes completely over
even after the light is
all gone;
zero
is the conclusion of all angles,
night, the conclusion of daylight,
as in dream
all the solid world
concludes.

Just in your breath
oxygen sparkles in my lungs, on my skin
like piano keys in the ears,

And the night trickles out
when the crescent pours
through the musical notes
written
between the lines of
your lascivious lips.

The opening lines made me think of the promise of something more, of infinity, that even when it is supposed to be nighttime, there is always more... a lingering by the moon, that "aftertaste" that holds different "notes" and images of this person. Perhaps in shadows. Just because day has concluded does not mean this romance has. I read this poem as a continuation, an ongoing song. A prelude to a bigger piece.

Love the thought that "oxygen sparkles" and the very intimate, almost tangible sound of the "piano keys in the ears".

Elegant, sensual and written with decadent notes of music... and love.
