Young love

We were young and in love
Happy and carefree
Then one day came a huge surprise
You said, “Will you marry me?”

My eyes full of tears
A smile upon my face
“Yes, I will be your wife”
You wrapped me in your gentle embrace

But more joy was to come
For we were to have a child
We couldn’t believe it,
We looked at one another and smiled

I was four months along
You wanted to go out
I pleaded for you to stay at home
I walked away with a shout

I went to sleep that night
Thinking you were safe at home
I woke in the morning only to find
I was alone

I thought you’d gone out
And you’d return to me soon
I waited around for you
A knock on the door at noon

Police walked in
They asked me to sit down
“We must tell you something ma’am”
One said with a frown

But I knew in my heart
What had happened
You had died in an accident
I was alone, I felt abandoned

Both of your brothers
Were with you the night
They had also died with you
Now I was white

This couldn’t be true
How could I lose all of you?
I crumpled to the floor
I whispered “I love you”

Your funeral was held but days later
I had to say goodbye
I had to be strong, for our baby
But still I did cry

It’s been one year
Since I lost you that fateful day
Our baby girl is with me now
I miss you so much

Our little girl reminds me of you so
She has your laugh and eyes
You would be very proud of her
And I know you watch us from the sky
