The Departure

by Larry Chamberlin   Jul 12, 2019

I watch you walk away and wonder
Is it my own selfish pride
that does not yield
or righteous indignation
that lets me sit and calmly allow
the world, around which I revolve, to leave.

How many people have let their beloved ones walk away, only out of pride ? I have seen it in books, in movies and in real life. Many people step on their hearts only because they do not wish to ask someone to stay. Humans are tough even on their own selves. We don't even have mercy on our soul, pride comes 1st, no matter the consequence we allow anger to consume us.

On a side note, I think if you choose a different adjective, other than "stupid" the poem would have a better reflection. I felt like this adjective weakened it, you could even let it go.

I also suggest you add commas below:

the world, around which I revolve, to leave.
