Once

by Alex Yew   Jul 23, 2019

Once
I wished you had said
'affirmative'
and dreams could have become a
reality.

Once
I could be so shy,
No guts looking into your eyes.
I only daringly pictured you
every time I closed my eyes.

Once
Excitedly I prepared envelops and stamps,
Love poems and letters.
Years later and yet
remained unsent.

Once
The girl I dreamed
is no longer in my dream.
Thankful that you appeared beautifully
ONCE in my life.

A secret admirer. Dreaming about having her as my gf but i never got the guts. Didn't have the courage to send letters that were already written. Years later, as i found my soulmate and the girl i had a crush with before slowly fades away in my memory. However, am still thankful that she appeared in my teenage time and that she somehow colorized and beautified my life.
Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated.

Wait... so the girl just stop appearing in your dreams? She didn’t become part of your reality per se? I mean, by stanza one, it seems like you asked her to be your girl friend and you didn’t get a yes. The word “affirmative” prompted me that. Then by third stanza, it looks like you never had the courage to ask her. So all of it just happened in your dreams? Thank you for sharing. With the “you”, I am not referring to anyone in particular. I’m just using it to refer to who ever is the narrator in the poem.
