An Interpretation of Christian Origins Through Poetry

James said:
We were huddled together, still shocked from the gruesome display of gore.
Some of us had means and property, but sadly most of us were poor.

Paul said:
I hated that bastard child, because they adored Him like a king.
They all ate, drank and danced together, I had no choice but to smash their scene.

James said:
We hated that terrorist, for upon us he dispatched his goons.
He was a traitor to our people, so we prayed “Liberator, come soon.”

Paul said:
My lust was rotting my soul, like a persistent thorn in my flesh.
But on a psychedelic road trip somewhere between Barstone and Damascus, things finally started to mesh.

James said:
Out of nowhere he switched tunes, claiming now to be on our side.
But the message he was shouting, it sounded more like his grandiose pride.

Paul said:
The man I hated most, He now appeared before my face.
And in an ironic twist of fate, He commissioned me for new race.

James said:
He did not quite grasp that our hope, it was the possession of G-D’s nation.
And with Greco other-worldly language, he flipped our hope into a global invitation.

Paul said:
The Chosen One told me that day, how He had not died in vain.
And His death concerned not just Abram’s folk, but had cleansed every sinner’s stain.

James said:
He was tainting our culture, he was crushing our identity.
His cronies hid behind “faith,” and the poor suffered for that serenity.

Paul said:
I got so mad at Peter, he behaved like such a hypocrite.
So I made a deal with James, because this mission I would not quit.

James said:
We realized we could not thwart him, and so we consented to his task.
“Just remember the poor” we told him, and please, do not wear your “faith” as a mask.

Paul said:
And so my message spread like wildfire, to the Greeks who worshipped inanimate stone.
I told them of the living god-man, and that their current condition was not their home.

James said:
But times were getting harder, our people ran out of food.
Damn you who exploit our labor! I don’t care if this sounds rude!

Paul said:
But times were getting harder, shipwrecked, arrested and beaten.
But I did not stop running the race, because I just could not be defeated.

James said:
As the food was getting scarce, we set a code of deeds.
From each as they were able to give, to each according to their needs.

Paul said:
But my desire will not go away, even when I repent in dust.

James said:
You hoarders of wealth and power - your wealth will be eaten by rust!

Paul said:
And the men too had unnatural relations

James said:
But G-D...the orphans and widows of our nation!

Paul said:
Men with men.

James said:
Your wealth is sin upon sin.

Paul said:
A thorn in my flesh…such a wretched man I am!

James said:
You who favor the rich - your faith is nothing but a scam!

-But wait-

James said:
“Knock knock,” ah yes, I know who is at my door.

Paul said:
“Knock knock,” ah yes, that ruby plume means gore.

James said:
Now here I sit in jail, I await the same fate as Him.

Paul said:
Here I am in chains, my future is looking grim.

James said:
But I do not despair, for I know that Y’Shua will return.
And G-D’s nation will dance once again, in our land that the Romans have spurned.

Paul said:
But I do not despair, for I know that Iesous will return,
And God’s creation will dance once again, in the Garden for which it yearns.

James said:
Maranatha.

Paul said:
Maranatha.
