When Tomorrow Comes (sonnet)

by Kitty Cat Lady   Aug 5, 2019

If I should lay my head just here to rest
And fill my mind with thoughts of me and you
Will it help me to understand this mess
Will I work out what is and is not true?

I gaze upon your face within the frame
A hazy silhouette in this moonlight
If I stare hard enough and without blame
Will it bring me some answers or insight?

And when the daylight breaks my chain of thought
I wonder if it will become quite clear
Why I am lying in this bed distraught
And you are everywhere yet nowhere near.

Please take my heartache as the night succumbs
I long for less pain when tomorrow comes.

This truly spoke of such pain and heartache, I think the lines that hit me most were "and you are everywhere yet nowhere near". That person being physically present but not in spirit, not emotionally. That final plea and yearning for less pain is heart-wrenching. Sometimes, we cannot find the answers or understand the present, and that makes it harder to know how to proceed, what steps to take. <3
