For My Daughter

by Matt Carroll   Oct 22, 2019

I'm not anywhere near perfect, far from Dad of the Year
I get upset, I make mistakes, this much is very clear
But I'm always in your corner, banners raised and poised to cheer
It's you and I through everything, my love is always here

A hand to hold and help you up, to wipe away the tears
To guide you through the darkest times and settle all your fears
A voice of reassurance to fall with ease upon your ears
That will always crash like thunder against mistreatment by your peers

A gift beyond compare which caused my course to sharply veer
My purpose in this world revealed, when I first held you near
All the laughs and smiles, the "I love you"s and "c'mere"s
Remind me that being Dad is worth it's weight in gold, my dear
